How Ishy Started:

At Christmas time around 2011, realizing I absolutely hated every holiday design on Christmas cards sold in stores, so I decided to make my own cards for friends and family.  It was then, when I was reunited with my childhood and college love of drawing.  I began filling sketchbooks with color pencil, ink and pastel drawings inspired by my local and cross country travels and book covers featuring rural landscapes I came across working part time as a Library Page in a Library.  In addition to drawing, I also got into photography around the same time, as cameras on phones became a norm.  During my travels around the city I’d capture images I found eye catching and inspirational for my drawings.  Around the same time I received my first IPad Mini, which was when I also discovered a love for digital painting through a couple of Draw-free apps.  Here are some highlights of my work over the past decade.   Throughout the 2010’s my artwork evolved and I started drawing more of what I've observed.

Ishy’s Art Work Today:

As 2010’s came to a close and we were introduced to the COVID 19 Pandemics in 2020, I began adding more personal emotion and feelings into my artwork.  This enabled me to play with visuals, and color and also add different mediums to my pieces in order to create a light to dark contrast.  When I started visual art, I worked mostly in ink and color pencil.  Over the years, I’ve added paint pens, pastels, gel ink, and fine line markers to work together in creating one piece.

What my work is made of?

I use a variety of materials in each piece depending on what kind of scene I'm creating.  For lighter and a more natural look, I like to use oil pastels and sometimes color pencils.  For my more dramatic and deep colors, I use acrylic paint pens, Sharpie Markers, and gel ink.
